Saturdays at 1:30, students fill the stands to watch the football game.  Dressing in blue and white, the fans cheer with excitement.  The team huddles together to call the play. The whistle blows and the game begins.

“Before the game,” senior John Tripodi said, “the adrenaline rushes through your body and all you can think about is what you have to do to dominate.”

The football team has come a long way since its beginning years. With senior star players and running backs Andrew Armato and Lyle McCombs, the team was unstoppable. The Staten Island Advance dubbed these two players “Sea’s smashing combination”. Twenty four other seniors aided these two stars during their gruelling season. The team worked extremely hard to end with the best record, 6-1.

“The dedication of our coaches and players brought the program to where we are today,”  senior Dominic DiBiase said.

For the first time in twenty-six years,  the varsity team beat Saint Anthony’s High School.  Beating this team was a huge accomplishment for the Vikings.  Nick Aimetti had a great game, along with the other seniors.

“Beating the Friars was the best feeling of my life,” senior Danny Dellaventura  said.

Even though the seniors will never play football together again, the memories of their time on the field will stay with them forever.

“We are like a family,” senior Christian Miller said, ”We have been together every day for four years. You’re friends. That means you’re more than a team.”

Running on the field and trying their best, the jv football team had a successful season. In the shadow of the varsity team, they prepared to work just as hard. The team met every day after school lifting weights and reviewing plays. All the practice helped the team to perform well.

“We work really hard after school every day,” sophomore Anthony Santo said. “I am happy to be part of such a dedicated team.”

The sophomore boys scored significant wins throughout the season. The team beat Holy Cross and Chaminade, two of the most competitive schools in the AAA division.

“Winning two of the biggest games in the season was a great feeling,” sophomore Ryan Smith said. “As a team we worked together to overcome the obstacles of difficult teams and came out with a win!”
