On a chilly, fall afternoon after the 2:32 bell rang, she scurried into the locker room, quickly put on her tennis attire, and stepped out onto the tennis court. Sophomore Erin Maloney was the first sophomore who advanced from alternate to the number two singles position.
“During the summer, I took lessons at C.S.I. to prepare for the upcoming season,” Erin said. “I hope to continue playing tennis in college.”
The girls on the team all agreed that Erin played a great season, and they were glad to bring her aboard.
“Erin is a great asset to our team,” senior Christina Ernesto said. “She brings a lot of talent to the court.”
But Erin wasn’t the only hard worker on the team. Since the girls practiced together every day from August until October, they all became very close.
“When I was a freshman, the girls on the team helped me to adjust to a new school,” junior Janine Martin said. “It was great to have support from my teammates.”
Captain Camille Petrizzo encouraged each of her teammates before the matches. She served as a great leader to the other girls and inspired them to perform their best.
“Camille is such a great leader and friend,” sophomore Victoria O’Leary said. ”She will be greatly missed.”
