Dom Anderson has been a force on the football field, and in the classroom.
That combination has led the St. Joseph by-the-Sea senior to sign a scholarship to attend Cornell University in the fall.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder had plenty of suitors for his services, but when the Division 1 Ivy League program from Ithaca, N.Y., came calling, it was an easy sell.
“Dom was an early decision (regarding Cornell),” said Sea head coach Mike Corona.
Anderson earned Advance All Star honors this past year when he finished with 37 receptions for 769 yards (20.78 av.) and seven touchdowns.
But Anderson also made an impact on special teams, returning three kickoffs for scores; and at defensive back, where he picked off three passes. And his blocked field goal as time expired preserved a one-point win over Xavier.
“Dom was an All-CHSFL selection, All-State, (a CHSFL) Senior Bowl MVP and a Fugazzi Bowl player,” said Corona. “And he was a 95-average student and our team’s scholar-athlete of the year. He’s a three-year varsity starter on offense, defense and special teams.”
